Kurramine Beach (not quite as crowded as Bondi)

Short story about our recent trip to Cooktown returning via the Atherton Tablelands.

The road via the inland highway was more to the liking of our Compass caravan and the latest sections were excellent. The last few K’s into Cooktown from about the Lions den turnoff was the worst as it is still the old road into town.

We stopped at Kurramine beach Big4 Van park for the first night or two to once again get used to the van and make a few adjustments to tyre pressures and the towing hitch.

Cooktown

Cooktown should be visited by every Australian. It has some wonderful history and good places to stay, take aways are not brilliant however if you look around there are some really good spots to eat a counter meal.

The gardens are a must as is the old museums. prices are reasonable and the look around takes quite a while.
Travel is easy with little traffic and very few trucks on the road.
Very pleasant stopovers at either Cairns or Lakefield. Fuel gets a bit pricey but distances around town are short anyway.

Fishing is good from the town jetty, and charter operators targeting Barramundi are readily available.
