Darwin story

Rather lengthy story about our recent trip to Darwin and surrounds. We travelled about every second day and vowed to stay over day rather than over night.

Much more R & R in between. Sort of saved a few dollars on a day to day basis.

As usual the cost of fuel was the highest part and sometimes we paid dearly for the pleasure of driving our wide brown country. There is certainly a lot of nothing in between stops.

We met quite a few people and made some friends at the many parks we called home for a short while.

Darwin

What a great city, big mobs to see, places to go and with fairly great weather at the right time of year. The van parks are well established and easy to find, well cared for from what we could see and hear.
Some of the beaches go on forever, we were at one and were the only ones there for a couple of K's of beach.

The highway from Townsville to the three ways is quite good, worst bit is from Charters Towers to Hughenden. From Hughenden on not to bad. Mt Isa to Camooweal is great, Best bit of road on the trip.

Camooweal to three ways is a bit rough as is the rest of the trip to Darwin. The Highway from Adelaide to Darwin is not what it used to be. Speed limits are now 130Kmh on the highway,

Probably good idea though I didn't see any real speedsters on the road, only a few motorbikes trying to kill themselves. Funny thing since the introduction of speed limits the deaths on the road in NT have increased.

Once you are there have a good time and really look around. The war history is very enlightening. We found that there was more shipping and more air raids on Darwin than Pearl Harbour.
